Silver City’s Pick It Up – Toss No Mas anti-litter campaign is a volunteer-based program that works to make Silver City a clean and beautiful place to live by keeping our community litter free.
We host monthly community-wide litter cleanups the third Saturday of every month.
Volunteers should meet at the Grant County Community Foundation parking lot located at 1106 North Pope St in Silver City, at 9 am on the 3rd Saturday of every month. Grab your supplies, including trash bags, gloves, trash pickers, snacks, and free t-shirts for new volunteers.
Scheduled cleanups in 2024 will take place on the following dates:
February 17, March 16, April 13, May, 18, June 15, July 20, August 17, September 21, October 19, November 16.
Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes and bring a hat, water bottle, and sunscreen. Children 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Families with younger children are encouraged to clean up litter in their neighborhood, local parks or waterways as children under 12 are not permitted on state highways for the cleanup.
Thank you to the New Mexico Department of Transportation for hauling the collected trash to the landfill. Recyclables are recycled with Silver City Recycles or the Main Landfill.
Partially funded by a grant from the NM Department of Tourism Clean and Beautiful Program and the Town of Silver City, Pick It Up – Toss No Mas is coordinated by Gila Resources Information Project’s Silver City Watershed Keepers in partnership with Silver City-Grant County Chamber of Commerce, Silver City Recycles, Silver City MainStreet, SWNMACT, Southwest Solid Waste Authority, and the NM Department of Transportation’s Toss No Mas Program.
