Who We Are

PFLAG is the nation's largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.  PFLAG National has been active for over 50 years, with PFLAG Silver City active for more than 25 years.

What We Do

1.  Provide monthly support meetings.  We meet at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City, 3845 N. Swan, 6:00 PM, on the first Tuesday of each month (except January and July).

2.  Fund a scholarship at WNMU for LGBTQ+ students and allies.

3.  Sponsor a median at the intersection of Silver Heights Blvd. and Hudson St.

4.  Provide free educational booklets published by PFLAG National

5.  Link parents who are struggling to accept their LGBTQ+ child with parents who accept, love and celebrate their LGBTQ+ child

6.  Sponsor and host trainings for educators in the needs and rights of their LGBTQ+ students and their allies.

7.  Support Gay/Straight Alliances and Gender and Sexuality Clubs at local schools, including the Queers and Allies Club at WNMU

8.  Host scholarship benefit dances to help fund scholarships

9.  Provide a "listening ear" phone number.  This is not a 24/7 hotline, but it is checked daily for messages.

10. Works with PFLAG Albuquerque and PFLAG Las Cruces to promote New Mexico as a safer, more supportive place to live for LGBTQ+ people and their families.

11. March in the Silver City July 4th parade

12. Participate in many local events, including Give Grandly, Earth Day, Summerfest, SASS Run for Survivors, and more.
